Here are testimonies from some of our biggest fans ... our adopters!

Stovetop

Stovetop

I adopted my black domestic shorthair, Stovetop, four and a half years ago from PBJ. Although I had never owned a cat before, PBJ made the adoption process smooth for someone like me who was excited, but also anxious about adopting my first cat.
They allowed me to visit 13 year old Stovetop before adopting and immediately we made a connection. A few days later I was taking him to his forever home. All these years later and Stovetop, now 17, is still going strong and is still a perfect companion.
I'd like to thank PBJ for all they do and the help they provided during the adoption process. - Jake

Missy Katz Too

Missy Katz Too

Missy Katz Too

Six years ago we adopted Mr. Katz, a 13 year old Cornish Rex rescued from the family of the deceased owner. Mr. Katz was a very special cat, who in addition to being extremely affectionate, slept in bed with us - under the covers. When he died at 17, we were heartbroken, but know that he had the very best remaining years of his life. Two years ago we adopted Missy Katz, thought to be 11, from Pets Bring Joy and PetMac after she was found wandering in Baltimore.
She was also a splendid feline and mitigated some of the pain after Mr. Katz died. Unfortunately, about a year ago she was diagnosed with mammary cancer, and after having what was the primary tumor we elected to provide her with palliative care and she lived for another 6 months. She was a beautiful girl, part Siamese with blue eyes. It became apparent last month that she was nearing the end, and we had her euthanized. While we intended to wait for a while to adopt another cat, we wrote to Lori at PetMAC and first asked about kittens. With us being seniors she responded that she had a cat for us.
Enter Missy Katz Too (her name from the Baltimore shelter was “Pinky”, but you can see the pattern here), an 11 year old also from the Baltimore shelter. From the minute after we brought her into our apartment, she has taken over. While conventional wisdom suggests restricting a new cat to one room, she proceeded to inspect the living room, dining room, bedrooms, and any closet that happened to be open. She also quickly found, and used, her box in the laundry room. To paraphrase an old joke, “Where does Missy Katz sleep? Wherever she wants!" She also is a bed sleeper with us and a real sweetheart, greeting friends and visitors alike without fear. This is a really long way of saying that adopting older cats is wonderful for the cats and cat parents as we all age gracefully. - Diana & Robert Seasonwein

Pop Tart and Mickey

Pop Tart and Mickey

I lost both of my dogs in the past few years leaving me with an emptiness and pain that I didn’t want to experience again. Recently I started to foster cats for Pets Bring Joy because I wouldn’t get so attached. So I thought.
I ended up adopting both of my fosters and one has become the dog that I needed, and the other, the cat that I can’t let go. I’m afraid to foster again. 😅

Morgan

Morgan

We are so happy to be able to support Pets Bring Joy. Lori and your organization connected us with Morgan on January 2021 and his presence in our household has brought us so much joy. We can't thank you enough for completing our family. - Cynthia Kreitz & Morgan (Formerly Tiger 4 from NC)

Dory

Dory

When Dory came to us she was terribly shy ... just a little shadow. Fortunately the other cats welcomed her and she quickly became comfortable with them. It took much longer for her to trust me ... but ... now she's a purring machine, silly and fluffy and loves to be brushed and petted. Doesn't mind a mani-pedi and snuggles all night long. We love her! - Sue H.

Kitty

Kitty

I fostered my cat, Kitty, in 2019 when she was 19 years old and after a month I decided to adopt her. It’s been 4.5 years and she’s turning 24 this month! I’ve attached pictures of her from this year. She’s the best coworker and reading buddy. Thankfully she’s relatively healthy for her age, the only issues seem to be hearing loss and a bit of memory loss. She’s just started to have some kidney issues but overall is in great shape! She’s still active and attacks our window anytime she sees birds. We love her so much and she’s been an incredible addition to my life. - Haidi

Leo and Shadow

Leo and Shadow Story

Not only is Leo adorable but Shadow is 17 years old and Leo is her foster and is adopting her. It’s a match made in heaven and I couldn’t be happier! - Leo and Shadow's Mom

Max

Max The Super Senior Cat

Good evening. I’m writing to let you know that Max, the 22+ year old cat I adopted through PBJ in January 2023 has moved on to wherever cats go for their next phase of existence. I think she had a pretty good fourteen months here, particularly as the local holistic veterinary team was able to do a lot to treat her arthritis and give her nearly painless mobility. (Highly recommending monthly Solentsia shots and osteopathic massages where folks can afford them.) We had begun thinking that she might well make it to 23 (in May), but it turned out that she had developed an aggressive oral cancer which likely had also metasticized. Even as we were regrouping with the vet to consider how to make her comfortable with that, multiple conditions escalated and she was clearly at the point where quality of life just wasn’t there (and she was clear about not wanting to continue the fight). So on a quiet sunny day, we had the vet come by and help her along.

For all that every cat and creature is special, Max was truly remarkable and the gap here is still painful, but we’re honored to have been able to provide a home for her in this last phase of her time in this plane. Thanks for your critical role in rescuing her when her former owner went into assisted living and for allowing her to come our way. Including a few photos taken along the way and sending a donation in her memory. - Winafred B.

Mutt and Jeff

Mutt and Jeff

Just wanted to update you on Mutt and his terrified brother, Jeff.
After a year and half, I have convinced Jeff that I am the lone human on the planet who will not eat him! He now sleeps next to me on the couch and head butts for pets. Although, everyone else in my life has to take his existence on faith as they have never seen him. Mutt is so friendly that he supervises everyone doing work in the home and claims the communal hallway as his. - Suzanne L.

Rudy

It's Rudy's Birthday!

Thought you might enjoy Rudy's birthday picture.
We are so happy that this is the second birthday he spent as our spoiled little man! He is doing well. We are managing his diabetes as well as intestinal small cell lymphoma with the dedicated support of our outstanding internal medicine doctor. There are occasional bumps but we work our way through them.
Rudy is the sweetest boy who we are grateful each day to have in our lives. Thank you so much for trusting us with this bundle of joy. Please take care and stay well. - Jean

Ziggy

Ziggy

Thank you for your message. I have been meaning to write to say thank you for bringing us Ziggy (he was Haldi at PBJ--orange tabby). He has brought us a lot of joy over this past year. He and his big brother Magnus have become BFFs and partners in (minor) crimes. Here are some pics. Thank you again! We love Ziggy! - Laura
