Double eye surgery was not the only hurdle Zen faced

Zen in her protective suit
Zen arrived from a local shelter in December 2017 after receiving double entropian eye surgery.
Her foster quickly realized that her eye issues were not her biggest challenge.
Zen had open wounds covering most of the side of her right flank.
She was on several medications and had cream for her wounds but the wounds were very challenging to heal.
She also had extremely saggy skin that made us initially believe that she had been very overweight at some point and had lost
weight rapidly. But the bloodwork did not indicate anything for rapid weight loss.
Eventually with some some research it was discovered that Zen has a collagen disorder called Feline Cutaneous Asthenia.
Simple grooming or scratching was causing large tears and lesions on her skin. We knew that she would need protection from herself.
We ended up finding her a protection suit that was literally a lifesaver. After about six months we were able to heal all of her wounds.
She still has occasional small wounds on her neck area but with close monitoring we have an able to keep them under control.
Through the unexpected journey of caring for her, nursing her back to health and struggling to keep weight on her,
her foster family fell in love with her! They eventually adopted her and Zen has been in her forever home for almost a year now.
She is an extremely affectionate kitty! She sleeps up against her mom with her chin on her arm almost every night.
She also loves to be snuggled. She’s got definite personality and is very talkative when she is ready for her food.
Zen has come along way in the last year and we are very grateful to have been a part of her journey.
