Dewey's Medical Surprise
Posted in Medical and Behavioral Challenges
Dewey was FIV+ when PBJ took him in; his delightfully sunny personality brought cheer to everyone who met him.
After being with us as a foster for almost a year because of inconsistent litterbox manners, we thought we'd found a
forever home for him. When we took him for his rabies vaccination update just before his adoption, however, the vet who
examined him discovered a previously undetected heart murmur. After visiting a cardiologist, Dewey was diagnosed with
cardiomyopathy, a progressive and ultimately fatal heart condition.
Our hearts were broken, but not Dewey's! He knew that a special person named Brenda was about to come along who fell in
love at first sight and welcomed him into her family, FIV, litterbox accidents, cardiomyopathy and all.
